As a digital lab technician, you will train student employees to ensure the safe operation of 3D printers, laser cutters, and digital printing equipment. You will ensure lab policies, procedures, and workflows are followed and assist with scheduling, demos, and tours. Daily, you will meet with the rapid prototyping operations manager and help students and faculty with file issues and difficult projects. Among other responsibilities, you will provide data to technicians to help produce projects, maintain equipment usage statistics, and create reports on machine downtime. Additionally, you will track the use of lab machines by departments, schools, and outside users, and communicate all inventory and machine concerns to your manager.

In this role, you will ensure billing is accurate and paperwork is processed promptly. You will proactively handle jobs and identify as well as resolve project issues. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, operation repair, quarterly inventory, and guarantee efficient lab materials are available to meet academic needs. Among other duties, you will ensure the implementation of safety policies and procedures and demonstrate the safe and correct operation of equipment. You will also participate in special projects as needed.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about the safe and efficient operation, repair, and maintenance of specialized equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and large format printers. They are a detail-oriented self-starter who can stay engaged with minimal supervision.

Minimum qualifications:      

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least three years of related experience
  • Proficiency with Rhinoceros, Solid Works, and Illustrator of similar modeling or graphics programs
  • Familiarity with digital technology equipment techniques for 3D and digital printing and laser cutting 

Preferred qualifications:      

  • Mechanical or electrical knowledge     
  • Finishing skills and experience in an academic environment

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
