As a fitness and wellness coordinator, you will work under the supervision of the assistant director of fitness and wellness to oversee the daily operations of SCADfit, monitor the fitness center floor, and assist students with the development of fitness plans. You will serve as the head staff member while on duty, responsible for equipment organization, maintenance, and orders; enforcement of all policies and procedures; and supervision of the front desk. Additional responsibilities include the implementation of fitness programs, instruction of at least two weekly exercise classes, and development of working relationships with internal and external vendors to support initiatives. You will also recruit, hire, and manage a student staff of 25–30, encouraging a focus on customer service and operations.

In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for all SCADfit safety and security concerns, including the execution of the emergency action plan for weather, structural, and medical crises. You will oversee student payroll, assist with marketing efforts, and represent SCAD university recreation at select NIRSA national, regional, and state conferences. Among other duties, you will play a crucial role in risk management and safety education throughout the department.  

Minimum qualifications:      

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation or sports management, or a related discipline
  • One year of professional experience in health and wellness OR two years of experience as a graduate assistant
  • Exemplary interpersonal, motivational, and organizational skills

Preferred qualifications:      

  • Master’s degree in recreation or sports management, leisure management, or a related field
  • Experience working in a university recreation environment
  • NIRSA membership

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • CPR/AED/First-aid certification

Travel required:  

  •  Less than 10%
