As an associate designer, you will measure and draw assigned projects, including functional programming; space planning; specification of furniture, finishes, and equipment; design and QC of custom fabrications; and coordination of artwork, signage, and other specialties. You will render projects using hand or mechanical means, create and distribute project punch lists, and enter work orders for assigned projects (e.g., performing building inspections, supervision of trades and contractors, coordination with internal departments, etc.). You will also ensure completion of work orders and projects by making site inspections and following up by supervising the quality control of tradesman and contractors.

In this role, you will review work orders for appropriateness, including site visits with internal department heads to determine appropriateness of requests, space planning and problem solving to find creative solutions, and order fulfillment and installation coordination and supervision to ensure efficiency and quality. You will assist with pre-quarter classroom setup and events as needed, conduct building inspections, supervise support services and maintenance technicians, and complete order fulfillment to meet needs for facility changes, additions, and improvements. You will also track furniture and product purchases for these work orders and projects.

Among other duties, you will maintain project schedules and adhere to deadlines, and organize and maintain the design library, current project information, and old projects. The person in this role must adhere to all OSHA regulations and safe practices. You will also lead a setup team and departmental moves, meet with departmental heads to assess needs, and supervise tradesmen and contractors during implementation. Projects you will be responsible for managing are valued at up to $1 million, including contractor selection, field management, architectural coordination, and financial budgeting.

The successful candidate has exceptional problem-solving and project management skills. Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to maintain professionalism with key decision makers, employees, and partners across the university. The ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently is also vital.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture, or other building arts discipline
• Must be able to pass DOT medical exam

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

• Valid driver's license
• Acceptance as a SCAD authorized driver

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
