As a digital textile and printing technician, you will ensure the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of lab equipment and buildings. You will deliver excellent customer service to SCAD students from all academic departments to help them achieve their goals, explaining all digital textiles lab technologies, how they work, and the best practices for success. Among other duties, you will learn and enforce all lab policies, procedures, and safety measures. Similarly, you will train student employees on the correct use and maintenance of all lab equipment, policies, and procedures. Additional responsibilities include communicating with vendors and suppliers, completing billing accurately and in a timely fashion, and conducting quarterly inventories to restock consumables and handle recyclable returns. After conducting inventory, you will provide the data or reports to the lead technician.

In this role, you will work directly with students and faculty to ensure high-quality output. You will assist with file setup, equipment requirements, and troubleshooting issues for difficult projects. Additionally, you will communicate updates to SCAD standards and technology requirements. Your responsibilities include proactive job processing, equipment demonstrations, and building tours. You will also help students with basic fabrication issues, file setup errors, and the completion of projects.

In this role, you will operate and maintain all textile lab equipment to ensure it functions properly. You will perform light maintenance and thorough cleaning of the lab and equipment and report any concerns or repair needs to your manager. Additionally, you will implement and uphold safety policies and procedures. Among other duties, you will oversee equipment security, provide backup during periods of high demand, and work in additional spaces as needed. You will also participate in university special projects and events throughout the academic year and attend all university-sponsored safety and security training sessions.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving skills. They are detail-oriented and highly observant, with the ability to think critically and troubleshoot technical issues. They can also multitask and prioritize workloads effectively. Familiar with the fabric dyeing process and post-processing equipment, they quickly learn new proprietary machine software and technologies. The candidate is personable, helpful, and an independent worker who is always committed to safety and professionalism. 

Minimum qualifications:      

  • At least one year of professional experience in a related field
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Experience with digital printing equipment, techniques, fabrics, and other materials or substrates
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as needed

Preferred qualifications:      

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience in an educational environment, particularly in a lab, workshop, or textile lab   

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
