As an assistant director of fitness and wellness, you will report to the director of University Recreation. You will serve as the primary weekday manager of SCADfit — the university’s state-of-the-art fitness center — coordinating all wellness programs and group exercise schedules for the department, and acting as a group exercise instructor for spin, HIIT, Pilates, or yoga classes. Your responsibilities also include onboarding and training group exercise instructors and student employees. Additionally, you will teach at least two classes each quarter and supervise and evaluate a SCADfit coordinator for fitness and wellness.

In this role, you will be the primary contact for all faculty and security issues. You will enforce and establish all security policies and procedures, assisting in the implementation of the emergency action plan for weather, structural, and medical emergencies. Additional duties may be assigned at any time.                                                                   

The ideal candidate displays strong interpersonal, motivational, and organizational skills.  

Minimum qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Available to work weekends
  • At least three years of fitness industry experience, preferably in a university setting

Preferred qualifications:   

  • Master’s degree
  • University recreation fitness or intramural experience preferred; graduate assistant experience considered

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Personal training or group exercise certification from NSCA, ACSM, NASM, ACE, or another nationally accredited organization
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification

Travel required:  

  • Less than 10%   

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
