As a backlot operations manager, you will manage a team of production support staff — including student workers — to complete student projects and more. You will ensure schedules, safety standards, and set etiquette are maintained for students and faculty. You will hire, train, and schedule staff according to budgetary and labor cost guidelines. Likewise, you will develop a budget that includes forecasted supplies, equipment installations, and repairs. You will also develop training materials for equipment use, promptly distribute information to the operations manager, and facilitate interdepartmental communications. 

In this role, you will assist with classes, productions, tours, and special events. You will perform regular equipment maintenance to promptly address issues and oversee repairs, cleanings, and updates. You will maintain accurate information for documentation and issue resolutions and escalate high-priority concerns to the appropriate personnel. You will also coordinate with the operations manager, equipment checkout staff, and the engineering and AV technical teams to ensure backup support. Additionally, you will research and evaluate emerging technologies to enhance backlot capabilities.

The successful candidate will display excellent computer hardware and software skills. They will also have knowledge of the gear available for use at the backlot and a significant focus on safety.

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • At least three years of experience in film production or a related field
  • Proven expertise in studio systems, video, and audio equipment
  • Experience as an electrician with the ability to handle high-power setups
  • Proficiency in film or television lighting techniques
  • Familiarity with cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and grip gear used in digital filmmaking

Preferred Qualifications:      

  • Prior experience in an educational setting 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Valid driver’s license

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
