As an assistant coordinator of deaf services, you will provide interpreting and CART services for the SCAD community in classrooms and at university events. You will maintain and track loaned equipment (including VRI kits and microphones), attend department meetings, and participate in after-hours on-call needs. Responsibilities include the dissemination and collection of student surveys, interpreter file management, and communications with instructors, students, and interpreters. Among other duties, you will regularly meet with the coordinator of deaf services, complete individual goals according to schedule, and gather interpreter and student availability each quarter. You will also stay informed about access for deaf and hard of hearing (HoH) community members.

In this role, you will consult with various departments as needed to provide support. Likewise, you will determine academic adjustments and reasonable accommodations based on student documentation and Section 504/ADA guidelines. Responsibilities include maintenance of an active caseload, participation in location-wide efforts to improve diversity and inclusion, and the prompt documentation of student contact. You will also engage in outreach and psychoeducational program development and presentations, conduct quarterly orientations, and contribute to department performance improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate is flexible in managing technology systems, including Microsoft 365 Suite, Google Suite, Blackboard, Banner, and Canva. The candidate is dedicated to creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving within an innovative and ongoing learning environment. They are also committed to improving service delivery.

Minimum qualifications:      

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Five years of professional interpreting experience with adults
  • Experience with coordinating and scheduling of interpreting services for large-scale events
  • ASL and English (written and spoken) fluency
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite, Google Suite, Blackboard, Banner, and Canva 

Preferred qualifications:      

  • Experience working in a higher education setting 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Certification from RID (CASLI), NAD, or BEI in ASL/English interpretation 

Travel required:  

  • Less than 10%   

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
