The assistant director of fashion exhibitions is primarily responsible for the research, organization and installation of on- and off-campus exhibitions and reports to the director of fashion exhibitions. The role includes researching the people, places, and culture related to fashion exhibitions, and writing exhibition blurbs, show summaries, label copy, catalog texts, talking points and other professional marketing texts, as well as gather images and artist press materials for publications, docent preparation and press needs. Additionally, he/she would develop and execute community-based and educational programs to complement major exhibitions, and present class visits, curatorial talks and tours for the SCAD community, patrons and public. He/she would also support museum staff with the development of their projects, including administrative and installation support, research and other assistance as needed.

 SCAD seeks an assistant director to help manage its fashion exhibitions full time in Atlanta.

In this role, your primary responsibility will be to research, organize, and install on- and off-campus exhibitions. Reporting to the director of fashion exhibitions, you will research the people, places, and cultures related to exhibitions and write the exhibition blurbs, show summaries, label copy, catalog text, talking points, and other marketing copy as needed. You will gather images and artist press materials for publication, docent preparation, and press needs, and develop and execute community-based educational programs that complement major exhibitions. As an assistant director, you will deliver presentations at class visits, curatorial talks, and tours for the SCAD community and the public, and support museum staff with the development of their projects. Among other duties, you will also assist with permanent collection items in SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film.

Qualified candidates thrive in team environments and are knowledgeable in fashion history and textile handling and conservation. Successful candidates are spectacular communicators and demonstrate exceptional presentation skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an art and design, fashion, history, or visual culture discipline
  • Professional experience in a fashion, fine art, and/or design museum
  • Ability to work outside office hours during installations and SCAD signature events
  • Experience curating in a museum setting

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. In order to accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
