As an associate designer, you will collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout all phases of projects under the direction of the executive director of interior design. Guided by senior interior designers, you will measure and draw assigned projects, including functional programming, space planning, and AutoCAD-based layout drawings; specification of furniture, finishes, and equipment; design and QC of custom fabrications; and coordination of artwork, signage, and other specialties. While incorporating input from multiple stakeholders, you will draw and render projects using hand and mechanical means and create and distribute project punch lists. Among other duties, you will enter work orders for assigned projects, perform building inspections, supervise tradespeople and contractors, and coordinate with internal departments in a collaborative, cross-functional process.

In this position, you will ensure work orders and projects are completed by conducting site inspections and following up on quality control for tradespeople and contractors. You will review work orders, assign site visits with internal department heads and stakeholders to assess the appropriateness of requests, plan spaces, and problem-solve to find creative solutions. You will also complete order fulfillment, coordinate installations, and supervise their completion to ensure efficiency and quality. Before each quarter, you will assist with classroom setups and events, including building inspections, supervision of support services and maintenance technicians, and order fulfillment to support facility changes, additions, and improvements. Responsibilities include the selection and approval of furniture and product purchases for work orders and projects, first from the university's inventory, and then from vendors or the purchasing department.

In this role, you will maintain project schedules and meet deadlines, organize the design library, manage current project information, and archive completed projects. You will lead setup teams and departmental moves, including meeting with departmental heads and stakeholders to assess needs, develop functional programming, and plan spaces. Responsibilities include the supervision of tradespeople and contractors during implementation and the management of projects valued up to $1M. Among other duties, you will participate in contractor selection, field management, architectural coordination, financial budgeting, and ongoing coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will adhere to all OSHA regulations and safe practices.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. They can also coordinate and complete tasks across multiple projects simultaneously. The candidate is comfortable interacting with employees across the university, including leadership and other key decision-makers.

Please note, this position is 100% on-campus in Savannah GA.

 

Minimum qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in interior design, architecture, or a building arts field

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Acceptance as a SCAD-authorized driver
  • Ability to pass the DOT medical exam

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
