As a CNC programmer/machinist, you will play a pivotal role in the SCAD student experience by assisting students with the fabrication of course-related projects utilizing CNC equipment and technology. It will be your responsibility to help students and faculty understand the capabilities and processes of CNC equipment, providing guidance on file preparation and best practices. You will also program and machine parts for students, SCAD special projects, renovations, and construction. Additional responsibilities include communicating with the CNC operations coordinator on inventory needs, ensuring accurate billing and timely paperwork processing, assisting with the creation and updates of department information and resource pages, and other duties as assigned.

The CNC programmer/machinist role is a student-facing position that works one on one with students, troubleshooting technical issues and offering elite customer service to enhance the overall learning environment. The successful candidate is detail oriented, highly observant, organized, a strong communicator, and adept at solving problems. The candidate must have an unconditional commitment to enforce all safety policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure compliance with OSHA standards.

Minimum qualifications:

  • One to five years of CNC programming, maintenance, and machine operation experience
  • Computer skills and experience with Rhinoceros, SolidWorks, Fusion, or similar software, with proficiency in three-dimensional modeling
  • Mastercam software experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Manual metal machining, welding, and woodshop experience
  • Experience in an academic environment

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
