As a community director, you will engage with students as an educator, resource, and adviser on academic and personal growth concerns. You will foster students' academic success and personal growth, implement mission-and value-based community programs and events, and maintain an active, available presence within an assigned residential community. You will also serve in the on-call rotation to address and document student behavior. As needed, you will serve as a Code of Student Conduct hearing officer. Responsibilities include the supervision and evaluation of paraprofessional staff members and the coordination of an assigned area's programming model, including training and assessing department values, target areas, and learning outcomes.

In this role, you will support recruitment, selection, and continual training for all residence directors and paraprofessional staff. You will also coordinate hall openings and closings, health and safety inspections, damage billing, and room consolidations. Among other duties, you will assist with the housing selection process for new and returning residents, orientation, and professional development workshops. Additionally, you will manage the programming budget for your hall.

This position is identified as essential personnel in the university's emergency and disaster response plans. In the event of a university closure or evacuation, all essential personnel must report.

Minimum qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior experience in a college residential setting or other group living environment
  • Access to a personal vehicle

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in higher education, student development, counseling, or a related field
  • Graduate student experience in residence life and housing 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
