As an operations manager, you will enhance the mission and public image of the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film. You will greet guests, manage merchandise inventory, and handle multiple sales transactions in the museum's gift shop to maintain accurate records and provide information about upcoming exhibitions and events. Weekly responsibilities include docent staff supervision, housekeeping, security coordination, and event facilitation. You will open and close galleries, address the needs of visitors and faculty, receive deliverables, and ensure that all visitor groups comply with building policies, regulations, and safety guidelines. Additionally, you will assist with program planning and internal communications to ensure the museum serves as an effective academic resource for diverse audiences and support the director with tours and group visits. You will also oversee daily cash management, end-of-day reports, and cash reconciliation.

In this position, you will manage the museum’s shop and café budget and operations, which include admissions, staff/docents, security, and tours to provide superior customer service. You will oversee docent recruitment, supervision, schedules, and training. Responsibilities include budget and report reconciliation and organization, group visits and tour facilitation, and art handling for exhibitions. You will establish the shop budget and expectations in conjunction with the director of auxiliary services. Among other duties, you will maintain and promote cleanliness to provide a great guest experience throughout the museum, ensure the shop aligns daily with the SCAD FASH mission, and stay informed about museum collections, exhibitions, and programs through research and educational opportunities. Your overall goal in this position is to maximize sales and profits for the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film.

The ideal candidate excels in both independent and collaborative work with minimal supervision. This individual demonstrates exceptional multitasking, time management, and interpersonal communication skills. They are also highly organized and detail oriented. The candidate must be able to work Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., as well as Tuesday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Minimum qualifications:      

  • Bachelor's degree in fashion, film, art history, arts administration, or business design and arts leadership
  • At least two years of professional experience in organizational management with internal and external clients
  • Experience in budget maintenance, financial report preparation, and project management (e.g., project planning, prioritization, and implementation)
  • Proficient in POS inventory control software/hardware and English 

Preferred qualifications:      

  • Prior retail or customer service experience

Travel required:  

  • 10–20%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
