As the director you will liaise with the student involvement teams in Atlanta and Savannah; ensure the SCAD brand is represented and cohesive with all locations; and work closely with all departments on the promotion of student events to ensure audience participation, positive PR, and sponsorship opportunities. In this position you will work with team members to create secure dates for events and create a calendar; pitch event ideas, concepts, and décor models to the associate vice president for student experience for approval; meet with and disseminate tasks to the involvement events coordinators; and monitor and manage approved budgets. You are responsible for supervising involvement event coordinators; interacting with guests, hosts, and staff; monitoring repeated major rental items and purchases; managing meetings; and determining sites for projects.

The role of director of involvement events includes coordinating logistics, timelines, and schedules; overseeing marketing, public relations, and publications to promote events; compiling expenses and ensuring invoices are processed in a timely manner; and communicating event concepts with all areas of the university. It is crucial that the individual in this position builds relationships with vendors and suppliers, oversees the printing of necessary materials and the development of guest lists, and ensures guests receive invitations in a timely manner. In this position you will work with internal departments to develop and create décor for events, oversee the breakdown/set up of events and confirming security and transportation, and work with city officials to ensure all city ordinances and park policies are abided by.

Other responsibilities of the director include approving catering menus; overseeing volunteers; approving orders, bids, rentals, and decorations; confirming that entertainment is booked; and hosting all rehearsals with speakers, production, and tech. You will work in tangent with the executive writers to ensure all scripts are accurate and consistent across projects and will perform other duties, as required, to assure the success of the events and conferencing department to carry out the mission of the university. Additionally, you will monitor the department presidential reporting and budgets, working with legal and approving all details in contracts and SPRS for contract vendors.

Minimum Qualifications:  
• Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution
• Five years of related experience and/or training
• Equivalent combination of education and experience

Travel required:

  • 20% to 40%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
