As a full-time environmental health and safety manager, you will promote a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors. You will coordinate with university stakeholders regarding services needed (e.g., safety supplies, pest control, hood cleaning, etc.), conduct weekly inspections of central hazardous waste storage areas, and manage hazardous waste disposal manifests, invoices, and purchase requisitions. In conjunction with the executive director, you will also collaborate with residence life on quarterly fire drills.


Among other duties, you will manage safety training needs, records, and class setups; schedule and coordinate respirator training and vaccinations for employees; and communicate with fire service providers regarding quotes for services and products. You will also order and maintain safety supply inventories, adhere to all OSHA regulations and safe practices, and serve as part of the university’s critical workforce during emergency response activities.


The candidate should have a thorough understanding of environment compliance and demonstrate the interpersonal communication skills necessary for building relationships with internal and external constituents.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree in safety engineering, environmental health and safety, or other closely related field
  • Three years of relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of all applicable state, federal and local laws and regulations, OSHA, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:  Successful management experience


Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver's license
  • OSHA 30 Certificate


Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
