As the executive writer, you will write essays, interviews, social media content, remarks, scripts, and keynote talks while staying well-informed of the evolving tone and concerns of the SCAD President. Your responsibilities will include pitching original content ideas for feedback before drafting, submitting drafts according to established timelines, and supporting others on the SCAD executive content team as needed. In this position you will collaborate with others to produce white papers, talking points, fact sheets, and the annual SCAD President's Report.

Through compelling stories, facts, and language, the executive writer elevates the SCAD President's voice to further position her as a thought-leader in higher education and the creative professions. To accomplish that outcome, the executive writer attends SCAD events, observes SCAD classes, and engages with the SCAD community to find success stories that illustrate the efficacy of the SCAD mission and integrates those facts and examples into executive content. Additionally, you will be expected to attend events and film shoots to rehearse with and support the SCAD President and travel as needed to other SCAD locations and external events.

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or similar journalism experience in a cultural, fashion, style, or design publication
  • A demonstrated track record of creative storytelling, strategic thinking, quality writing, and excellent research and fact-checking
  • Effective organization and management of multiple concurrent, urgent projects
  • Ability to thrive in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree
  • Writing or ghostwriting for major publications and outlets
  • Writing for the highest executives in an organization, and/or professional knowledge of higher education or the creative disciplines taught at SCAD

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license

Travel Required:

  • 10% to 20%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
