SCAD Savannah seeks a full-time farm manager to oversee the operations and production for the SCAD Serve farming initiative, an apiary, and the university's two organic gardens: Back40 and The Hive community garden.

The Hive community garden and Back40 are established organic gardens that produce over 2,500 pounds of produce annually that is then donated to local organizations. The apiary, located in Back40, is an established collection of beehives yielding about 45 gallons of honey annually, and it also serves as a hub for educational activities and community outreach.

In this role, you will collaborate with staff, work-study students, and volunteers to expertly maintain and cultivate the farm. You will also serve as a source of knowledge and information about the farming initiatives and ensure the success of all gardening entities while overseeing their upkeep, production, and programming.

The successful candidate is exceptionally detailed and has a desire to positively impact the community in a sustainable way. Spectacular communication and interpersonal skills are a must, as is the ability to effectively manage a team that includes students and volunteers. The candidate should also thrive in evolving, fast-paced environments. The ability to consistently lift 20-40 pounds and pass the DOT medical exam is required. Management experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline
  • One to two years of related experience OR equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Experience and education in, sustainability, farm management, beekeeping, landscaping, and organic gardening
  • The ability to consistently lift 20-40 pounds and pass the DOT medical exam

Certificates, licenses and registrations: Valid driver's license

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. In order to accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
