As the groom, you will keep the stable area neat and clean, working under the supervision of the barn manager. In this role, you will follow instructions from the trainer, farrier, veterinarian, and other equine care providers and will be expected to administer medications and other appropriate bandaging/first aid to the horses. The groom is responsible for unloading hay and grain bags; providing rations, supplements, and water to horses; and monitoring the level of feed, hay, and bedding in stock. Additionally, you will saddle, unsaddle, bathe, and groom horses and must be able to hand walk, lunge, and turn horses out to pasture or turnout.

Minimum Qualifications:    

  • At least one year of relevant experience in stable/yard work
  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions
  • Some experience in the care, feeding, and grooming of horses and stable upkeep
  • High school diploma desired
  • Must be OK with working on some weekends and holidays

Travel Required: Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours to accommodate business needs, including weekends and evenings.
