As an interpreter, you will provide high quality and accurate interpreting and/or transliterating services while upholding the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct. You will participate in team meetings, work in collaboration with fellow interpreters, and complete annual goals in a timely manner. You will also submit timesheets accurately and on time; promptly respond to all communications from the coordinating team using a SCAD email; and respectfully communicate with students, colleagues, and supervisors. Your duties may vary, and others may be assigned at any time.

The successful candidate will be able to represent the university honestly, professionally, and positively, as well as demonstrate courtesy towards others while respecting diversity. The candidate must be flexible with changes, updates, and unexpected circumstances; be open and receptive to feedback: and be willing to learn and embrace continuous improvement. The candidate should also engage with curiosity and possess a growth mindset.

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • A.A. in interpreting and four years’ experience (min.) in higher education OR B.A. in interpreting and two years’ experience (min.) in higher education
  • American Sign Language and English fluency

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Certification by the RID, National Association of the Deaf (NAD), and/or Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI); OR ability to obtain certification within two years of hire

Travel Required:  

  • 10–20%   

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
