As an ISSO adviser, you will help F-1 international students and their dependents recognize the rules and regulations that apply to them and will administer all aspects of SEVIS reporting requirements as a designated school official (DSO). This will include liaising with the SEVIS help desk regarding periodic SEVIS record data fixes, filing extensions of stay, changing of non-immigrant status (COS) applications, traveling abroad, procuring re-entry signatures, ensuring compliance, and handling all other F-1 related applications/procedures. In this position you will issue initial attendance I-20's for F-1 students who have taken a lengthy “leave of absence” from SCAD and advise them on the immigration and academic implications of their return. It is your responsibility to manage the SEVIS I-20 transfer process and periodically liaise with other colleges/universities regarding transfer-in procedures for prospective SCAD students.

Responsibilities of the adviser include working with a senior ISSO adviser to ensure that database workflow major/minor changes, name changes, addresses, and suspensions/dismissals come through and are appropriately managed. They must have a “working knowledge” of STEM-related career issues, as well as a myriad of other career-related needs. For all quarterly orientations, they will assist with checking in new students before and during orientation. This person will need to work with Career and Alumni Success staff to coordinate efforts.

The ISSO adviser must keep abreast of changes in laws, rules, regulations, and administrative procedures concerning international students studying in the U.S. They will serve as a designated school official (DSO) with respect to reporting requirements to USCIS. Additionally, the ISSO adviser manages Terra Dotta alerts and students’ requests and helps to manage orientations, programs, workshops, and cross-campus collaborations that help students acclimate to American cultures and norms.

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one year as a DSO or comparable international education knowledge, and knowledge of F-1 student visa regulations
  • Experience designing and implementing events and workshops
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with significant experience with cross-cultural communication 
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with accuracy to meet internal and external deadlines

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree
  • Multilingual
  • Experience in Banner, Terra Dotta, Salesforce, and App Extender

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency
  • Valid driver’s license

Travel Required:

  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
