As Linux system administrator, you will be responsible for project leadership, program deployment, configuration, standardization, security analysis, maintenance, and creating improvement plans. You’ll also be responsible for disaster planning, optimization of virtual environments, and SAN integration. In this position, you will provide internal consultation on current and future implications and changes as systems and technologies evolve while offering suggestions to improve efficiency. You are responsible for integrating Linux-based solutions in a multiple OS environment, reviewing hardware and software requirements for installation, analyzing and responding to performance metrics, and maintaining inventory. 

The Linux system administrator is responsible for utilizing scripts, codes, programs, and packages to automate and simplify administrative tasks. The administrator will also schedule and test maintenance packages for a variety of services and support existing operating systems. Responsibilities include documenting projects, customizations, and internal standards; monitoring, creating, and deleting employee, internal service, and third-party accounts; and auditing and responding to daily backup activity and functionality.  

The ideal candidate will display a deep knowledge of scripting and programming and will have experience in configuring, securing, and deploying web services and modules. They will also have a fundamental understanding of database support requirements and configuration.   

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of experience and education; at least one year experience as a project lead 

  • Appropriate Linux certifications or two years of experience in Linux system administration 

  • Track record of successfully deploying and managing Linux environments and leading platform and service migrations 

  • Proven exposure configuring, securing, and monitoring Linux server operating systems with a history of integrating services and servers within a standardized and centralized authentication environment 

  • Previous work supporting, configuring, and optimizing virtual environments; experience packing and deploying applications to servers and clients; and experience managing and testing all security updates  

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Redhat Certified Technician or equivalent 

Travel Required: Less than 10%  

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
