As a luxury labs curator, you will work with relevant stakeholders to develop a standard of excellence defined by criteria and measurements to ensure an elevated experience within the facility. Collaborating with library staff, you will evaluate collection items, create and implement a strategic plan for organizing and presenting the collection, and compile a detailed inventory of current holdings. You will identify items for deaccession, prepare quarterly status reports on the collection, and develop resources to assist with staff training. Regarding acquisition strategies, you will assess the collection for gaps and growth opportunities, research potential acquisitions that align with objectives, and create a prioritized wish list with estimated costs.

In this role, you will conceptualize, develop, and propose unique quarterly exhibitions. Proposals will include a thematic overview, item list and layout, environmental requirements, and budget estimates. You will establish and maintain relationships with luxury brands and private collectors, coordinate loan agreements and insurance requirements, and oversee exhibition installation and de-installation. Additionally, you will create exhibition guides, educational materials, and resources that highlight key features of an exhibition proposal to support relevant staff training.

Working with SCAD Libraries, you will establish collection management procedures, research and document provenance, and create detailed catalog entries. You will maintain accurate records and develop standards for object handling and storage, photography and documentation, catalog record creation, digital asset management, and conservation monitoring. You will also produce resources that articulate collection management standards and train relevant staff on established procedures while ensuring compliance with professional museum standards. In partnership with SCAD Giving and legal administration, you will also formulate strategies to secure donations and loans and prepare proposals that cover item significance and relevance, market value assessment, conservation needs, and display recommendations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of luxury goods, fashion collections, and best practices for conservation. They will also exhibit exemplary project management and communication skills.

 Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master's degree in museum studies, art history, fashion, fashion history, or a related field OR equivalent professional experience in related areas
  • Professional experience in museum, archive, or collection management

Travel required:

  • 10-20%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
