As the maintenance technician, you will perform various maintenance and repair work such as plumbing, electrical issues, HVAC troubleshooting, furniture repair, and more independently as instructed or assisted by other personnel. The technician will assess that items are in working order and will complete any necessary repairs. This job requires operating machines such as forklifts, trucks, and hand/power tools and documenting problems that need correcting. You will be expected to be able to lift heavy objects and coordinate with fellow staff members to complete all assignments.  

The coordination between staff members to accomplish duties is integral to the position, as is the ability to work independently with little direction while meeting schedules and timelines. The ideal candidate can perform heavy physical labor, lift heavy objects, be on call to handle emergencies, and always maintain a professional appearance. Adherence to OSHA regulations and safety practices, as well as SCAD policies and procedures, is crucial.   

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) 

  • Seven to ten years of experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Clean driving record 

  • Must be able to pass DOT medical exam* 

*If the applicant fails the DOT physical based upon a claimed disability under the ADA and notifies the university of such, the university will participate in the interactive with the applicant to determine whether there is a reasonable accommodation under which the applicant can perform the essential functions of the position. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Acceptance as a SCAD-authorized driver 

Travel required: 20% to 40% 

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
