As an interaction design professor, you will guide students through the process of designing engaging and intuitive digital experiences, including smart devices, web and mobile applications, and immersive experiences. You will assist students with the conceptualization and creation of high-fidelity prototypes or MVPs while encouraging experimentation with tools such as Webflow, Bubble, or Glide. Additional duties include supporting students as they learn to collaborate efficiently with developers and effectively hand off designs. As a faculty member, you’ll join a supportive team of professionals and educators dedicated to nurturing a diverse and talented student body through a curriculum grounded in real-world design challenges and emerging trends.

Responsibilities include adherence to all duties and expectations outlined in the SCAD Faculty Handbook, which encompasses coursework preparation, syllabus design and approval, office hours, midterm grade reviews, and more. Among other responsibilities, you will provide students with extra help sessions, extended learning opportunities, and field trips outside of regular class hours. As a faculty member, you will join a supportive team of professional educators dedicated to nurturing a diverse and talented student body through a curriculum grounded in real-world design challenges and trends.

In this role, you will model professionalism, fulfill all grading and academic documentation requirements, and record attendance. You will assist with all academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts. Occasionally, you may support departmental and university-wide initiatives by attending both in-person and virtual events, such as faculty councils, admission activities, accreditation support, curriculum development, and exhibitions, among other duties. Professors must fulfill teaching assignments determined by contact hours as specified in the Employment Agreement. 

The ideal candidate is an innovative and creative hands-on designer. They must possess a strong background in user interface (UI) design, user experience (UX) design, and digital product design, along with a passion for emerging technologies and a desire to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with future designers. They are eager to guide students through the design of complex systems by leveraging new technologies and tools to create products and services that have a positive impact.

They should also be comfortable using tools like Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, feel at ease with new tools that meaningfully accelerate the design process, and have significant experience collaborating closely with stakeholders and software developers for effective implementation. The candidate should be eager to assist students in moving beyond prototyping to create minimum viable products using web technologies or low-code tools.

Minimum qualifications:       

  • Degree in interactive design and game development or a related discipline such as computer science or human-computer interaction
  • Professional experience in design, interaction, or product development, and using IxD/UI/UX design for apps, web, or XR products
  • Familiarity with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Webflow, Bubble, and Glide
  • Strong background in visual interface and digital product design

Preferred qualifications:       

  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level 
  • Working knowledge of Python or JavaScript
  • Experience with the game engines Unity or Unreal

Travel required:   

  •  Less than 10%
