As a professor of English, you will prepare talented students for creative professions through engaged teaching and learning in a positively oriented university environment. You will fulfill teaching assignments as determined by contact hours outlined in the Employment Agreement that includes syllabus design, submission, and approval; office hours; midterm grade reviews; availability for extra help sessions; extra learning opportunities; and field trips. You will also maintain an active and engaged classroom environment, plan and prepare to teach courses, and conduct course/program level assessments. You will also fulfill grading and documentation requirements. Additional duties may be assigned. 

In this position, as outlined in the SCAD Faculty Handbook, you will model professionalism, record attendance for each class, and follow academic policies and regulations. You will support academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts by contributing to the university’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. You will maintain availability to attend on-ground and virtual activities upon request such as admission events, faculty councils, exhibitions, and more. Participation in events may also include curriculum assessment and development meetings, accreditation support, institutional effectiveness meetings, or publicity assignments. In this role, compliance with all SCAD policies and procedures is required.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  •  Phd (or equivalent) in English or in a relevant field
  •  Academic and professional credentials to teach in English
  •  Experience in or knowledge of related professions

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Ability to be credentialed through SACS guidelines or justified to teach

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%
