As a professor of foundation studies, you will join other dedicated faculty members in teaching a thoughtfully curated series of courses that offer students a foundation for building their visual, conceptual, and creative abilities. You will teach classes such as Color: Theory and Application, Creative Thinking Strategies, Design III: Time, Digital Drawing, Drawing for Storyboarding, and Life Drawing. You will prepare students for major-specific disciplines where their achievements may be internationally recognized with honors, such as a European Product Design Award, a Student Emmy Award, and more.

Through rotating exhibitions and permanent collections at SCAD museums and galleries, you and your students will gain exclusive access to study objects and signature events that include visiting international artists to engage in creative discourse. Recent guest artists have included Carlos Cruz-Diez, Alfredo Jaar, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, Dustin Yellin, and Omar Victor Diop. This global network offers unparalleled opportunities for students and faculty to explore the emergence of innovative forms of visual expression.

The successful candidate has a strong portfolio of professional work and the ability to teach design and drawing classes in a way that creates an active and engaging learning environment for students. They will also submit a sample of their students’ portfolios, including drawing, design, color, and 3D examples.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Degree in drawing, design, or a related field
-Experience in, or knowledge of, related professions
-Experience with Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

-At least three years of teaching experience at the collegiate level

-Experience incorporating 2D, 3D, and 4D within design processes

-Experience with analog and digital technologies and color theory

-Experience customizing projects for clients

-Experience with creative collaborations

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

-Academic and professional credentials to teach in a relevant discipline
-Ability to be credentialed through SACS guidelines or justified to teach
