As a shop technician, you will maintain the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of the shop equipment and facilities, proactively identifying problems and developing solutions to improve shop efficiency. Reporting to the shop manager with up-to-date inventories and safety or equipment concerns, you will demonstrate safe machine operation to students, assist faculty with class demonstrations, oversee the thorough and timely completion of daily assignments, and assist in enforcing proper use of WebCheckout for shop tools and equipment. You will also attend all college-sponsored safety training sessions and provide backup operations support during times of high demand.

The successful candidate is an excellent communicator and team player who prioritizes maintaining a positive, cooperative, and productive work environment. Advanced working knowledge of woodworking equipment, processes, and techniques is required. Knowledge of metal and plastic fabrication is preferred, as is basic machine maintenance and mechanical knowledge.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be available to work flexible hours (nights or weekends may be required at times of high demand)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree

Certificates, licenses, and registrations: Valid driver’s license

Travel required: Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In order to accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
