As a student success adviser, you will provide proactive student outreach and deliver services and programs designed to support students and the university’s mission, including conducting First Year Experience classes for all incoming, first-year students. You will serve as a resource for all academic and financial questions for assigned undergraduate students and will assist students as they prepare for professional careers. In this position, you will guide them through class selection and registration; articulate academic and financial policies; and assist students as they develop academic goals, select their majors, and begin early career planning. 

As an adviser, you will follow a regular communication plan involving proactive – and early – outreach to a caseload of 400 to 500 students, and you’ll be expected to monitor student academic progression. An adviser coordinates services with various offices at SCAD, possesses and in-depth understanding of academic programs, develops programming and training for students to learn new software, and articulates campus policies.  

A student success adviser participates in SCADbound and orientation activities to meet with prospective students and their families. You also will provide regular communication with department chairs and faculty. Additional responsibilities in this role include participating in curriculum review; catalog proofing; assisting with faculty advisement; coordinating and providing support to other offices; and documenting student contacts in Banner.  

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and as part of a team 
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple departments 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment 

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Master’s degree 
  • Experience in advising, financial aid, or counseling in higher education  

Travel Required: Less than 10%  

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
