As a triage counselor, your primary focus will be to cultivate partnerships with SCAD staff and faculty to better connect students with needed services by appointment or, when necessary, immediately. You will provide professional assessment, crisis, counseling, and outreach services to SCAD’s students, as well as consultations to university administrators, staff, and others who have concerns about the mental and emotional health of students.

Using your background and knowledge, you will act as a screener for risk and will determine the best modalities of care. You will also serve as a first responder for students in crisis, participate in on-call shifts, supervise graduate student staff, and conduct follow-up consultations to improve continuation of care, among other duties.

The successful candidate has experience providing crisis intervention, triage, and care coordination to young adults from diverse backgrounds. Spectacular interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is a commitment to multicultural competencies. The candidate should have a flexible yet highly organized working style and can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Proven strengths in clinical assessment (triage), electronic recordkeeping, and electronic scheduling is also vital.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or relevant clinical discipline
  • Professional experience working with serious mental illness and risk assessment
  • Independent license eligible in Georgia

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional, successful clinical/counseling experience in a large mental health services agency and/or university counseling center
  • Experience with Titanium or other electronic records and scheduling software

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. In order to accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
